Our Upcoming Epic Road Trip to Disney World with Two Toddlers: Survival Tips and Must-Have Travel Essentials

Hey, fellow parents! 🌟 Our family is gearing up for the ultimate family adventure—our road trip from Charleston, SC, to Disney World in Orlando! 🚗✨ This will be our first long journey with our two little ones, our 1-year-old and 3-year-old boys and we’re feeling a mix of excitement, anticipation, and a bit of nervousness.

If you’ve ever thought about taking a road trip with toddlers, we invite you to follow along as we share our planning process, packing tips, and must-haves that we hope will make our journey not only manageable but unforgettable!

The Plan:

When we decided to drive down to Disney World, we knew we had to be prepared. A 6+ hour car ride with two toddlers is no small feat! We want to make sure the boys are entertained, comfortable, and (fingers crossed🤞🏽) well-behaved during the drive. So, I’m doing what any resourceful mom would do, I’m hitting up Amazon to stock up on everything we’ll need to survive the journey.

What We’re Packing for the Boys:

To keep the boys busy during the ride, I bought a few new fidget toys to keep them busy. They have no idea that they will be getting new toys for this car ride. I want to make the toys exciting so I have kept them a secret until we get in the car. Check out below some of the items I purchased from Amazon for the road trip!

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Fidget Worm Keychain- These fidgets can be pulled and squeezed. They are soft and squishy. I know the boys will enjoy stretching them out as far as they can. We will see how long they last!

  • Edamame Keychain Fidget Toy- This fidget is fun and unique. It allows the kids to pop edamame beans. It has three adorable edamame pods to squeeze and pop to hopefully keep the boys hands busy.

  • Toddler Busy Board- I am most excited for the boys to be able to use this busy board. It is shaped like a gaming controller and has so many different switches, buttons, lights, and everything kids like to play with, but shouldn't. I know this will keep them busy, hopefully for a while!

  • LCD Writing Tablet- My boys love drawing and writing so of course we need a mess free way for them to draw their hearts out on the car ride. These easy to use LCD Writing Tablets will allow the boys to write and draw as much as they want on a single board.

Pro Tip:

We’re planning to bring the boys iPad and Amazon Fire Kids tablet loaded with their favorite movies and shows. This will be our secret weapon for when the boys start to get restless. Having the tablets ready is a must! Check out this tablet holder that we use for the boys. It easily attaches to the headrest and holds the tablet for them.

Planning Pit Stops and Snacks:

We are mapping out a few strategic pit stops to let the boys stretch their legs and burn off some energy. We’ll be on the lookout for rest areas with playgrounds, those will be our lifesavers! We also plan on stopping to get lunch half way through the drive to really get out and stretch and take a break from the car. This will be good for all of us!

We’re also packing a cooler full of snacks because, let’s be honest, snacks are the real MVPs of any road trip. Our boys love fruit, goldfish and, of course, fruit snacks. As toddlers, the boys are constantly snacking so snacks are a must have for our roadtrip! In order to make snacking easier in the car we also purchased a car seat snack tray. We have already started using it and it definitely helpful.

Getting the Boys Excited for Disney:

We’ve already started talking about Disney World with the boys, showing them pictures and videos of Mickey Mouse and Cinderella’s Castle. By the time we’re in the car, we’re hoping they’ll be as excited as we are! I have also bought some Disney themed travel coloring books on Amazon to keep the Disney magic alive all the way to Orlando. These coloring books are perfect for the road trip as they have water pens and are mess free! No coloring on the seats!

The Arrival:

When we finally drive under that famous “Walt Disney World” sign, I’m sure all the planning and preparation will feel so worth it. We can’t wait to see the boys' eyes light up when they realize we’ve made it. It’s going to be the start of an incredible Disney adventure!

Conclusion:

If you’re thinking about planning a road trip to Disney World (or anywhere else) with toddlers, just remember: preparation is key, and flexibility is your best friend. Expect the unexpected, go with the flow, and most importantly, enjoy the ride! We can’t wait to make memories that will last a lifetime, and we hope you’ll join us for the journey.
